How do we perceive data usage in the smart home?

Smart devices have long been part of everyday life for many people, from lighting to heating. This generates data that can help to create new digital services.
But how do we feel about the collection of data by our devices? What could motivate us to share this data and what seems fair to us?
Our Chair of Industrial Information Management and the Junior Professorship of Entrepreneurship and Digitalization are jointly investigating precisely these questions in a study as part of the Opt-IN research project.
The aim is to understand how people perceive smart home applications, what feelings they associate with them and what factors influence their decision to share data.
- Participation takes approx. 15-20 minutes, is anonymous and is possible in German and English.
- Every perspective helps to design systems that are fair and transparent.
