The Chair for Industrial Information Management maintains close connections to the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and System Technology ISST. The ISST was founded in 1992 with its headquarters in Dortmund. Since 2017, the executive director of the institute has been the responsibility of our chair holder Prof. Dr.-Ing. Boris Otto.
The ISST researches in the three business areas:
- Data economy - including data marketplaces & data-driven business models
- Healthcare - digitization strategies in healthcare
- Logistics - Digital real-time representation as a competitive advantage in distributed production processes
The questions about the value of data, data sovereignty as well as strategies for digitization and real-time connection of data-driven services are in the focus. A broad spectrum of theoretically and practically oriented researchers work on a wide variety of approaches that transfer the findings from basic research into practical implementation.
There are close collaborations with other Fraunhofer institutes, such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, the TU Dortmund, here in particular with the Chair for Industrial Information Management, and the University of St. Gallen from Switzerland.
